Piper L-4H Cub Serial Number 11945

History

Registered date of construction 17.6.44 with a USAAF serial number of 44-79649 (Piper s/n 11945) It was assigned to the 8th Air Force for onward assignment to Army Ground Forces (AGF) on 19.6.44, and was received by the 8th on 24.6.44. After active service with AGF (almost certainly a Field Artillery unit) it returned to USAAF control (actually the 9th Air Force, which was then on the Continent) for storage and eventual disposal as war surplus. This occurred on 28.7.46.

It was first registered in Britain on 14.9.46 as one of the first Cubs on the register. Since then it has been owned by three separate owners until being purchased by the company in early 2006 as a rebuild project.

The following months will see this aircraft through a painstaking restoration to concourse condition as the flagship of the company fleet.
